Have you ever noticed the different hand / arm motion(s)/position(s) peeps have while they get their squat on? More recently I've noticed a preponderance of hand clasping amongst CFD peeps and on the occasional affiliate video. In the picture over to the left, George Condon is implementing his version of Greg Amundson's "handshake" approach as he knocks out the 100 squats in Angie.

Once a decent squat's been established, there's no "right" style. Some people flap like birds. Some people swing wildly. One things for sure though - the more those arms are moving, the faster the squats are going. The reverse seems to almost never be true.

For more immature squats - it's helpful to raise the arms and keep them extended on the way down - leading to a nice extended spine and a more vertical torso. A more upright posture in the bottom of the squat sets us up for other fun things - like the front squat, cleans, the overhead squat and snatching.

So, while you might think you have this fundamental movement knocked, chances are there's a little work that could be done to make it better. Remember, we want you to be virtuous in your movements, and by that we mean doing the common uncommonly well.

A good video to look at is this classic one with Nicole and Annie. Amazing speed w great execution.
